Florida law puts renters on the hook for unpaid association fees.
Associations across Florida have been struggling to pay their bills. As of July 1, legislature has adopted a new law to combat his issue. The new law puts renters on the hook for unpaid association fees. If a landlord is not paying their association fees the association must notify the renters. Under the new law, the renters are required to pay association fees before paying the landlord. The amount paid to the association will count as rent credit with the remaining balance to the landlord. For example, if the lease is $2000 a month and the association fees are $500 a month, the association would receive $500 with the remaining $1500 going to the landlord.
I agree associations fees need to be paid, but do you think this is going to work? Give us your thoughts.
